Update using Panasonic camera body

Please note that a camera body is required in order to update any Four Thirds lenses.
(including Micro Four Thirds lenses), while camera body can be updated without lens.

Firmware Update Workflow

Step 1.Preparation of update program

1-1. Check the current version of firmware of your camera and lens and interface unit
1-2. Download the file for update
1-3. Copy the extracted firmware update program into an SD memory card.
(For a camera using a microSD memory card, please use a microSD memory card.)

Preparation products

1. Fully charged battery
※Updating may fail when the battery is not fully charged.
2. SD Memory Card
※Be sure to format the SD Memory Card with the camera that you are using.

Procedure for update

Step 1. Preparation of update program

1-1. Check the current version of firmware of your camera body and lens and interface unit

The procedures to check the firmware version of your camera body and lens, are explained in this section.

Camera Body and Lens

The procedures to check the firmware version of your camera body and lens, are explained in this section.
The firmware version display method Mount a lens onto the camera body. Set the camera's power switch to ON. Press the MENU/SET button. Go to the SETUP menu and select the "Version DISP" (Screen 1), then press [ (Right Cursor button)].

Firmware version of camera/lens is displayed. (Screen 2) Confirm that the version of the firmware is lower than the new firmware. *If the version is the same, updating is not necessary.

You can update firmware of Four Thirds lenses as well by using a Mount Adaptor (DMW-MA1). Remove the accessory attached to the Mount Adaptor (such as Teleconvertor) before updating. *You can not update nor even see the firmware version if it is attached.

Interface Unit

The firmware version display method Connect the DMW-YAGH interface unit to the DMC-GH4 camera body, then switch ON the power of the camera. Connecting HDMI line from the camera to the interface unit is not needed. Press the MENU/SET button. Go to the SETUP menu and select the "Version DISP", then press [ (Right Cursor button)]. The screen shows (Screen 3) Interface Unit Firmware: Information of interface unit Firmware version.

1-2. Download the file for update and Extraction of the file

Download the firmware you will use from the website.

For zip file

Download and save the zip file of the firmware for your camera.
* There are cases where the file is automatically saved in "Download" folder.
Uncompress the file.
* There are cases where the file is automatically uncompressed depending on the PC environment.
Confirm [xxxxxxxx.bin] or [xxxxxxxx.lin] or [xxxxxxxx.ebn] file is extracted.

For exe file

Please click "download" button on the download page to download the update contents to your PC.
* Procedure depend on your browser and it's version, so please make sure the procedure and where the contents will be saved by your browser in advance.
Check the file size first by selecting "properties" in the right click menu.
Double click the contents (xxxxxxxx.exe) to run self-extract.

* You may see following message after double click the downloaded files, please ignore it and just click Run and move to the next step.
Clink "Install".
* If you want to change the folder to install the file, designate the folder to install.
Confirm [xxxxxxxx.bin] or [xxxxxxxx.lin] or [xxxxxxxx.ebn] file is extracted in the designated folder.

1-3. Copy the extracted firmware update program into an SD memory card.

Copy the firmware file ( [xxxxxxxx.bin] or [xxxxxxxx.lin] or [xxxxxxxx.ebn] ) to the SD Memory Card.

* Do not copy 2 or more firmware files ( [xxxxxxxx.bin] or [xxxxxxxx.lin] or [xxxxxxxx.ebn] ) to the same SD Memory Card.
Firmware update may fail if 2 or more firmware files are saved in the SD Memory Card.

Check if the camera is turned off.

When installing the firmware using the SD Memory Card slot on PC or external SD Memory Card reader/writer

Insert an SD Memory Card you use for firmware update into the SD Memory Card slot or SD Memory Card reader/writer.
* Format the SD Memory Card in the camera in advance.
Copy the firmware file ( [xxxxxxxx.bin] or [xxxxxxxx.lin] or [xxxxxxxx.ebn] ) saved through the process of "1-2.Download the file for update and Extraction of the file" at the root(*1) of the SD Memory Card.
(*1) Root means the top-level directory.

Example (Windows10 Explorer): It may look different depending on the PC environment.

When installing the firmware via USB connection

Insert an SD Memory Card you use for firmware update into the camera.
Connect the camera and the PC via USB.
Turn on the camera.
When USB mode menu is displayed, select [PC] or [PC(storage)] and press [MENU/SET] button.
Check "Removal Disk(LUMIX)" is recognized on the PC.
Copy the firmware file ( [xxxxxxxx.bin] or [xxxxxxxx.lin] or [xxxxxxxx.ebn] ) saved through the process of "1-2.Download the file for update and Extraction of the file" at the root(*1) of the Removal Disk (LUMIX).
(*1) Root means the top-level directory.
