Please note that a camera body is required in order to update any Four Thirds lenses.
(including Micro Four Thirds lenses), while camera body can be updated without lens.
Firmware Update Workflow
Step 1.Preparation of update program
1-1. Check the current version of firmware of your camera and lens
1-2. Download the file for update
1-3. Copy the extracted firmware update program into an SD memory card.
(For a camera using a microSD memory card, please use a microSD memory card.)

1. Fully charged battery
※Updating may fail when the battery is not fully charged.
2. SD Memoy Card
※Be sure to format the SD Memory Card with the camera that you are using.

The firmware version display method
Mount a lens onto the camera body.
Set the camera's power switch to ON.
Press the MENU/SET button.
Go to the SETUP menu and select the "Version DISP" (Screen 1), then press [ (Right Cursor button)].
Screen 1 <G series cameras>
Firmware version of camera/lens is displayed. (Screen 2)
Confirm that the version of the firmware is lower than the new firmware.
*If the version is the same, updating is not necessary.
Screen 2 <G series cameras>
You can update firmware of Four Thirds lenses as well by using a Mount Adaptor (DMW-MA1).
Remove the accessory attached to the Mount Adaptor (such as Teleconvertor) before updating.
*You can not update nor even see the firmware version if it is attached.
1-2. Download the file for update and Extraction of the file
Download the firmware you will use from the website.
For zip file
Download and save the zip file of the firmware for your camera.
* There are cases where the file is automatically saved in "Download" folder.
Uncompress the file.
* There are cases where the file is automatically uncompressed depending on the PC environment.
Confirm two [xxxxxxxx.bin] files are extracted.
1-3. Copy the extracted firmware update program into an SD memory card.
Copy the two firmware files ( [xxxxxxxx.bin] ) to the SD Memory Card.

Check if the camera is turned off.
When installing the firmware using the SD Memory Card slot on PC or external SD Memory Card reader/writer
Insert an SD Memory Card you use for firmware update into the SD Memory Card slot or SD Memory Card reader/writer.
* Format the SD Memory Card in the camera in advance.
Copy the two firmware files ( [xxxxxxxx.bin] ) saved through the process of "1-2.Download the file for update and Extraction of the file" at the root(*1) of the SD Memory Card.
(*1) Root means the top-level directory.
Example (Windows7 Explorer): It may look different depending on the PC environment.
When installing the firmware via USB connection
Insert an SD Memory Card you use for firmware update into the camera.
Connect the camera and the PC via USB.
Turn on the camera.
When USB mode menu is displayed, select [PC] or [PC(storage)] and press [MENU/SET] button.
Check "Removal Disk(LUMIX)" is recognized on the PC.
Copy the two firmware files ( [xxxxxxxx.bin] ) saved through the process of "1-2.Download the file for update and Extraction of the file" at the root(*1) of the Removal Disk (LUMIX).
(*1) Root means the top-level directory.
Example (Windows7 Explorer): It may look different depending on the PC environment.
