Update using Panasonic camera body

You can also firmware updates from LUMIX Tether.

"Settings" button on the operation panel ⇒ "Start" button for firmware update

Please unzip the downloaded ZIP file in advance.

Please make sure that your camera body firmware is updated to the latest version first, when updating the lens firmware.

Firmware Update Workflow

Step 1.Preparation of update program

1-1. Check the current firmware version of your camera body and lens
1-2. Download the file for update and Extraction of the file
1-3. Copy the extracted firmware update program into a memory card

Step 2.Procedure for camera body and lens update

Preparation products

1. AC adaptor (Standard Accessories)
2. Memory Card

* Prepare memory card, such as SD card, which is compliant with the model that you are using.

* Be sure to format the memory card with the camera that you are using.
The memory card must have a free space larger than the file size.
3. External monitor & cable

Procedure for update

Step 1. Preparation of update program

1-1. Check the current firmware version of your camera body and lens

The procedures to check the firmware version of your camera body and lens are explained in this section.
* Please Check with the camera body connected to an external monitor.

How to display the firmware version

Mount a lens onto the camera body.
Turn the camera's power switch to ON.
Press MENU/SET ⇒ Others 1 Button.
Select [Firmware Version] in the SETUP menu.

Firmware versions of the camera and lens are displayed.
Proceed the update when the displayed firmware version is older than the released new firmware version.

*If the displayed firmware version is the same, updating is not necessary.

1-2. Download the file for update and Extraction of the file

Download the firmware you will use from the website.

For zip file

Download the firmware for your camera and save the zip file to any directory on your computer.
* There are cases where the file is automatically saved in "Download" folder.
Uncompress the file.
* There are cases where the file is automatically uncompressed depending on your computer environment.
Confirm [xxxxxxxx.bin] or [xxxxxxxx.plf] file is extracted.

1-3. Copy the extracted firmware update program into a memory card.

Copy the firmware file ( [xxxxxxxx.bin] or [xxxxxxxx.plf] ) to the memory card.

* Do not copy 2 or more firmware files ( [xxxxxxxx.bin] or [xxxxxxxx.plf] ) to the same memory card.
Firmware update may fail if 2 or more firmware files are saved in a memory card.

Check if the camera is turned off.

When installing the firmware using the memory card slot on your computer or external memory card reader/writer

Insert the memory card you use for the firmware update into the memory card slot or the external memory card reader/writer connected to your computer.
* Please format the memory card in your camera before use.
Copy the firmware file ( [xxxxxxxx.bin] or [xxxxxxxx.plf] ) which was saved through the process of "1-2. Download the file for update and Extraction of the file" at the root(*1) of the memory card.
(*1) Root means the top-level directory.

When installing the firmware via USB connection

Insert the memory card you use for the firmware update into the camera.
Connect the camera and extarnal monitor or TV.
Turn on the camera.
Press MENU/SET.
Select [IN/OUT] ⇒ [USB Mode] ⇒ [PC(Storage)] (refer Screen 1, 2)

Connect the camera and your conputer via USB.
Check "USB Drive (LUMIX)" is recognized on your computer.
Copy the firmware file ( [xxxxxxxx.bin] or [xxxxxxxx.plf] ) which was saved through the process of "1-2. Download the file for update and Extraction of the file" at the root(*1) of the "USB Drive (LUMIX)".
(*1) Root means the top-level directory.
