Joint update service for Four Thirds lens and camera body (step 3)

Update Information

On this page the explanations assumed the lens firmware update on DMC-G1 or L10. (The schematics are extracted from the Operational manual for L10.)
 
Step 3. Procedure for lens update
  1. Mount the lens onto the camera body.
  2. Charge the battery fully.
  3. Make sure to turn off the power switch.
  4. Insert the fully charged battery to the body.
    If the battery is not full, the firmware update will not start and Fig.3 will not appear.
  5. Insert the SD Memory Card prepared in STEP 1-1-4 into the Camera body.
  6. Turn on the power switch.
  7. Press the Play button to enter the Play mode.
  8. After the message of "PLEASE WAIT ..." is displayed, the following display will continuously be shown on the LCD (Fig.3).

    Version number varies according to the updated firmware used.

    If a newer or same version to the updated firmware downloaded is already installed in the lens, the firmware update process will not start. And if the firmware update process for the camera body will start, go on to the Step.2 for camera body firmware update.


  9. Press the Up button to select Yes. The update process will start (Fig. 4 and Fig. 5).

  10. At the above screen(Fig. 4), press the MENU/SET button(Fig. 5) and the screen will change to Fig. 6.
    The update process of the lens will start. The firmware update will take about 2 to 3 minutes.
    Please do not attempt the following operations before completion of next step 11.

    • * Turning the power off and on
    • * Pressing any buttons
    • * Opening the SD memory card compartment
    • * Removing the SD memory card
    • * Removing the lens or the Mount Adaptor
    • * Removing the AC adaptor cord
    • * Removing the DC cable

    The green bar increases the level by the process.

  11. Once the firmware update process is completed, the camera body will turn off the power and turn on again then it will be initial mode automatically.
  12. To verify the version number, follow Step1 at the beginning. Upon the confirmation on the lens firmware version same to the one you downloaded, the lens firmware update is completed.
  13. Turn off the power switch.
  14. Remove the SD memory card.
With the above "update of the lenses" is completed.

Note:
About the SD memory card after it has been used for a firmware update.
Please format the SD memory card used for a firmware update before taking photos, otherwise it may cause the camera body to malfunction and/or decrease the number of pictures able to be taken.
